Deleting your account
Updated 12 October 2026
You can delete your account and your data at any time, without writing to anyone and without being talked out of it. This page explains exactly what happens, because “deleted” is a word some companies use loosely.
Before launch. The Keep has not opened yet, so the only thing you can currently have with us is a waitlist entry. To remove it, use the unsubscribe link in any email from us, or write to [email protected]. It is deleted, not flagged as inactive.
From inside the app
- Open Settings
- Choose Account
- Choose Delete account
- Confirm. We ask once, plainly, and we do not make you explain why.
By writing to us
Send a request from the email address on the account to [email protected]. We will confirm it is really you, delete the account, and write back when it is done.
What is deleted
- Your account and email address
- Your sign-in sessions and any outstanding sign-in links
- Your device registrations and push tokens
- Your reminder times
- Invitations you sent, and any that were not accepted
- Your encrypted backup, if you had one
- Anything you contributed to the research set
This happens within thirty days, and usually immediately.
What is not deleted, and why
- A record that the email address was closed. It carries nothing about you. It exists so a closed account cannot be silently recreated, and so we can answer honestly if you later ask what happened to your account.
- Payment records. Tax and accounting law requires us to keep records of transactions for a set period. These sit with our payment processor and with our books, not in the product.
- What is on your own device. Deleting your account does not reach into your phone. Delete the app, or use the in-app option to erase local data first.
- What you already shared with someone. If you exported a record and sent it to an attorney, we cannot retrieve it from them.
Export first if you want it
Deletion is irreversible. There is no thirty-day grace period during which we quietly keep a copy for you, because a copy we keep is a copy that can be subpoenaed. Export your record before you delete if you may want it later — the export opens without The Keep.
Subscriptions
If you subscribed through the App Store or Google Play, deleting your account does not cancel the subscription. Store rules mean only you can cancel it, in the store’s own settings. Do that first, or you will keep being charged for an account that no longer exists. If you subscribed through our website, deletion cancels it.
